Activity summary:

The Commission on Human Rights was established in 1946 and has since then participated in the drafting of all major human rights documents adopted by the United Nations, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, the Convention on the nationality of married women of 1957, the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination of 1965, the International Covenant on economic, social and cultural rights, and the International Covenant on civil and political rights of 1966, the Convention on the elimination and repression of the crime of apartheid of 1973, the Convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of 1984.
The Commission has established subsidiary bodies, e.g. the Sub-commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, and working groups to treat particular questions.
