Activity summary:

UNITAR was established as an independent organisation within the UN in 1965 to provide training for persons, primarily from developing countries, for assignments with the UN or the specialised agencies, or for assignment with their national services connected with the work of the UN and other related organisations and institutions.
The programmes of UNITAR are focussed on environmental training, in particular concerning Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and on International Environmental Legal Instruments.
