The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , founded in 1945, is the largest of the UN specialized agencies, and the leading international body for food and agriculture. FAO's priority of achieving global food security is approached by concentrating on finding ways to eliminate the hunger and poverty affecting millions of people in developing countries through four main tasks: carrying out major programs of technical advice and assistance for the agricultural community; collecting, analyzing and disseminating information; advising governments on policy and planning; and providing opportunities for rich and poor governments to meet as equals to discuss major problems affecting the sector. The main office of FAO is in Rome, Italy.
