Activity summary:

The International Organization for Migration is the principal international body concerned with migration, arranging the movement of refugees and migrants to new homes and promoting other migration and migrant-training services to ensure orderly migration and integration. IOM was formed in 1951 (as the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration) to help solve the post-war problems of refugees and displaced persons in Europe, and to assist in the orderly migration of nationals. It adopted its current name in 1989 to reflect its worldwide activities. Since operations began in 1952, IOM has assisted some 5.3 million refugees and migrants to settle in over 125 countries.
