The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies works throughout the world to coordinate the humanitarian activities of its 169 National Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies, with the aim of preventing and alleviating human suffering. It works to help the most vulnerable people in the world. Founded in 1919, the Federation coordinates international relief in times of man-made and natural disaster. It helps National Societies plan and implement disaster-preparedness and long-term development projects designed to reduce vulnerability to disasters and contribute to sustainable development.
