The International Air Transport Association is an association of airlines which was founded in 1945 by airline operators seeking to promote “safe, regular, and economical air transport”. IATA has its European office in Geneva, and its head office in Montreal where it cooperates closely with the International Civil Aviation Organization, a UN specialised agency based there. IATA’s objectives are to enable people, freight and mail to move more efficiently throughout the world and to ensure that members’ aircraft can operate safely and efficiently under clearly defined and understood rules.
