The Aga Khan Foundation is a private non-denominational development agency committed to promoting health, education and rural development, primarily in low income countries of Asia and Africa. Established in 1967 by the Aga Khan, the Foundation provides grants and funding for development projects and seeks to foster an innovative approach to social and environmental problems. The majority of AKF projects are grants to grassroots organisations. Grantees and beneficiaries are selected without regard to race, religion, or political persuasion.
