The International Metalworkers’ Federation was founded in 1893 by metalworkers attending an international socialist congress in Zurich. Today, 18 million metalworkers worldwide are united in the IMF. Manual and non-manual workers in the auto, aerospace , electric, electronics, engineering, shipbuilding, steel and metal industries are covered by IMF activities. The IMF organises international solidarity campaigns and contacts between metalworkers in different countries. A priority in the 90’s is to bring together workers form the same multinational company but employed in different countries.
