The Lutheran World Federation is a global communion of Lutheran churches. Founded in Lund, Sweden, in 1947, the LWF now has 122 member churches in 68 countries representing over 56 mullion Lutherans. The location of the LWF secretariat in the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva facilitates close cooperation with the World Council of Churches (WCC) and other Christian world communions. The LWF acts on behalf of its member churches in areas of common interest such as ecumenical relations, theology, humanitarian assistance, human rights, communication, mission and development work. The annual LWF financial turnover is around US$ 131 million of which about US$ 118 million are allotted to some 700 projects, programs and emergencies in about 70 countries.
