The World Council of Churches is a fellowship of some 324 churches with a total membership of about 400 million Anglican, Protestant, Orthodox and other non-Roman Catholic Christians in over 100 countries. The WCC seeks to promote the unity of the Church and humankind. The WCC stands for ecumenism and the strengthening of ties within the whole Christian Church community. It works to improve contacts with the Roman Catholic Church which is not a member of the WCC but participates in some WCC activities. Although it makes no effort to proselytise, the WCC seeks to promote doctrinal unity among its members as a long-term goal.
