Activity summary:

In order to develop an authoritative consensus on the potential for climate change, including a possible trend toward global warming, the WMO and UNEP jointly created in 1988 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the scientific research arm of international efforts to control climate change. The IPCC, which includes climatologists, scientists and government officials from more than 100 nations, is divided into three working groups: one to review and assess the causes of climate change; a second to assess the possible environmental and socioeconomic impacts of climate change; and a third to identify potential response strategies.
