The International Olympic Committee is the international non-governmental organisation which conducts, promotes and regulates the modern Olympic Games. The IOC was formed in Paris in 1894 and is the supreme authority of the Olympic Movement; it owns all the rights concerning Olympic Games and looks after their organisation. The IOC ensures the regular celebration (every four years) of the Olympic Games, including choosing the site for the Games. The IOC is the lead organisation within the Olympic Movement which also comprises the National Olympic Committees, the Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, the International Sports Federation, as well as national associations.
