Activity summary:

The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat (known as the Ramsar Convention after the city in Iran where the convention was signed in 1971) provides a framework for international cooperation in the conservation of wetland habitats. The treaty entered into force in 1975 and is administered as an independent unit from the office of the IUCN.
